Seven Ways to Get Back Up Again

This summer I was visiting one of my longtime friends and business partners; helping her kick off her new business while I sampled (devoured) her yummy cheese platter. On her living room table I spotted the book, The Hope Quotient by Ray Johnston.

I know the power of Hope and the negative impacts when there is a lack of it. I really felt it years ago, before I finally found my unique solution my Vulvodynia and Pudendal Neuralgia nerve conditions. I would go to a new doctor and try whatever it was they suggested. It wouldn't work and i'd be back to laying on my couch crying from pain and from lack of hope that anything would change.  I still see the lack of hope in the private Facebook groups i’m in for people who are still searching for their relief to pain.

I also see it and have experienced it in
business. You pour so much effort into building a business, planting seeds, sharing information and nothing seems to come of all the work. It makes you want to throw in the towel because all hope of anything changing seems completely lost.

I downloaded the book while standing there, eating all the tasty cheese.  About a week later, on a morning walk at the ranch with Rowdy the cow-dog, I started listening and learning.

Here's Rowdy! Look beside him you'll see where a bear and a turkey took a walk before us.

Here's Rowdy! Look beside him you'll see where a bear and a turkey took a walk before us.

WHAT MAKES PEOPLE STAY DOWN WHEN THEY TAKE A NOSE DIVE?

Lack of hope because of discouragement.
Discouragement from their circumstances.
Discouragement from other people.
Discouragement from themselves.

All of this discouragement keeps people people down in that smelly, gross, germ ridden dump, quickly wreaking havoc on dreams because they don’t continue to keep on keepin' on.

HOW CAN YOU BREAK THE CYCLE AND GET BACK UP?

The ripple effect from a fresh vision of HOPE.

SEVEN WAYS TO GET BACK UP AND CRAWL OUT FROM DOWN IN THE DUMPS
(From Ray Johnston’s book The Hope Quotient)

  1. RECHARGE YOUR BATTERIES
No one runs well on empty. Running on empty can make you an emotional disaster, causing you to feel anxious and fearful. Then you make crappy decisions. Ask yourself what drains your tank and figure out what will fill it back up.

  2. RAISE YOUR EXPECTATIONS
You aren’t handed what you deserve. You get what you expect.

  3. REFOCUS ON THE FUTURE
Looking in the rear view mirror isn’t going to get you anywhere. You aren’t going that way!  This one gives me the image of a toddler running, looking back to see who’s chasing them, and falling. Every time.

  4. PLAY TO YOUR OWN STRENGTHS
Everyone else is taken so be YOU!

  5. REFUSE TO GO IT ALONE
Don’t underestimate the power of support! You don’t have to go it alone. Reach out and ask for support. Even the Lone Ranger had Tonto! Search for your Tonto until you find the support you need.

  6. REPLACE BURNOUT WITH BALANCE
Don’t burn the candle at both ends.

  7. PLAY DEFENSE AGAINST KILLERS OF HOPE:
    Rash, Unhealthy Decisions
    Running from Responsibility
    Blaming Others
    Bitterness & Resentment
    Losing Perspective
    Looking Back & Comparing
    Past Failures
    Guilt
    Worry & Anxiety
    Giving Up Too Soon

Getting down in the dumps is a part of life but staying down is what kills ya! The stench alone will get ya if the germs don't get to you first.
